In the wake of Storm Chandra, ALONE, the national organisation dedicated to supporting older people to age well at home, is urging older individuals in Wexford who have been affected by the storm to get in touch. The organisation is reminding the public that help is available throughout the county for those who need it.
Following the storm’s impact, ALONE staff and volunteers have been actively reaching out to older people in Wexford to ensure their safety and well-being. The team is providing assistance to those affected by storm damage or flooding, helping them access necessary services and support.
Seán Moynihan, CEO of ALONE, expressed particular concern for older people who may not have previously needed help but are now finding themselves isolated due to the effects of the storm. He stated, “We are especially concerned about older people who may never have needed support before and are now experiencing challenges due to storm or flood damage. We want them to know we are here to bridge that gap, even for those who don’t usually require our services.”
Older people in need of assistance can contact ALONE’s National Support and Referral Line at 0818 222 024, available 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, including during the Bank Holiday. Anyone concerned about an older person in their community is also encouraged to reach out to the same number.
In case of urgent concerns regarding an older person’s welfare, the public is advised to contact the Gardaí immediately.
