The Executive Director of Amnesty International Ireland has called on the Irish Government to take immediate action following a major UN report.
Speaking on Morning Mix, Executive Director Stephen Bowen said the UN Commission of Inquiry has confirmed that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. “We cannot say we did not know” he said. “Now is the time to act.” Amnesty wants Ireland to cancel its support for the EU-Israel Association Agreement. “We cannot be giving Israel special privileges while the evidence of genocide continues to mount” said Bowen. He also supported peaceful protest in Ireland. “Peaceful protest can be strong and strident and that peaceful protest must not be silenced” he said. Protests and vigils continue to take place across Wexford and other parts of the country in support of Palestinian civilians.
