Areas of non-compliance found at cork hospital
HIQA says it identified a number of areas of non-compliance at a hospital in Cork. Announced inspections were carried out at St Joseph's Community Hospital in Millstreet on 4th and 5th March. There were no abuses or care defecits identified. However, in one case, HIQA found that an unexpected death of a resident had not been notified to the relevant inspector. Other areas of non compliance-included a palliative care patient receiving treatment in a multi-occupancy ward; staff awareness of safeguarding arrangements in the event of an allegation of abuse; fire regulations and medication management practices. A review also found not all staff had up to date training in recognising and responding to abuse; and one staff file did not contain full employment history. HIQA has given the hospital a timeline to address the issues identified.
