An elderly man died in a house fire this morning. The fatal blaze at the Villas estate in Clonroche village happened at 9am.
Neighbours alerted the emergency services, but efforts to rescue the man who was alone in the house were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The house has been sealed off while a technical examination. Gardaí say they are formally identifying the body and notifying his family this afternoon.
