DFDS Increases Capacity on Rosslare–Dunkirk Route

DFDS has announced a significant upgrade to its Rosslare–Dunkirk route with the deployment of Victoria Seaways, set to begin service from 26 September. The vessel will replace Optima Seaways and bring a marked increase in both passenger and freight capacity—doubling the number of cabins available and expanding freight lane metres by 10%.

The move comes in response to sustained growth in demand for direct Ireland–Europe crossings, both for freight hauliers and leisure travellers. Since its launch in 2021, the Rosslare–Dunkirk corridor has become a critical alternative to the UK Landbridge, offering Irish exporters a reliable and efficient direct route into mainland Europe. For businesses, the increased freight capacity means improved scheduling flexibility and more space during peak demand periods—helping to support supply chain resilience. For passengers, the enhanced comfort and connectivity onboard Victoria Seaways make the crossing more accessible for families, leisure travellers and those touring with vehicles such as caravans and campers. “This boost in capacity on the Rosslare–Dunkirk route demonstrates the latent demand there is from both business and leisure travelers on this key route and I look forward to the service going from strength to strength,” said Glenn Carr, Director of Commercial Business Units at Iarnród Éireann. The vessel upgrade also reinforces DFDS’s long-term investment in Ireland's transport infrastructure, helping to future-proof cross-border logistics while supporting regional economic growth.
