Fears over future of former st. senans hospital building

There are fears for the future of one of the most significant architectural buildings in the country. The former Saint Senans Hospital in Enniscorthy is in the "at risk" category according to An Taisce. The landmark Hospital in Brownswood was vacated by it's last patients in July and it's future use remains uncertain. An Taisce says the building is identified as being of national significance with its three storey red brick facade and five towers built with Kiltealy granite in the mid 1800s. An Taisce is now to put the building in it's top ten of nationally significant buildings. Saint Senans is owned by the HSE and is in continuing use for offices for mental health and community personnell and they say it's future use is under review. Local architectural historian Peter Pearson has suggested the building would a make an ideal third level college campus or hotel. Saint Senans is not listed as a protected structure in the County Wexford Development Plan 2013 to 2019.
