The Taoiseach and Fianna Fail leader have been meeting this morning to discuss the next steps in the Garda whistleblower controversy.
They're expected to discuss the possibility of a public investigation, with Fianna Fail, Sinn Fein and Labour all reportedly in favour of a tribunal of inquiry. Fianna Fail is not going to bring down the government on this matter as it would halt any investigation into the Maurice McCabe affair. Enniscorthy Fianna Fail TD James Browne says an election would be a complete distraction following the very serious way that Maurice McCabe has been treated by a number of state agencies.
