Fianna fail leader says justice minister's position untenable

The Fianna Fail leader's accusing the Justice Minister of misleading the Dail in relation to garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe. Micheal Martin yesterday revealed he obtained documents after meeting Sergeant McCabe which contain evidence alleging gardai failed to properly investigate serious crimes. This morning Deputy Martin says he believes the position of Minister Alan Shatter is untenable. He is slamming the treatment of Maurice McCabe by Mr. Shatter, and his comments about him in the Dail. "He has sought to be too dismissive of the whitsleblower, he essentially rubbished him in the Dail by saying he didn't cooperate with Sergeant John O'Mahoney's inquiry into the penalty points saga - we now know that he was never interviewed by that inquiry" he said. Asked if Mr. Martin was alleging that Mr. Shatter mislead the Dail in relation to Mr. McCabe, he replied "Yes...by saying that McCabe didn't cooperate with the inquiry into the penalty points".
