Wexford people have until Sunday, January 18th to apply for support from the Hare’s Corner biodiversity project, an initiative aimed at creating habitats for nature on local land.
Developed by the Burrenbeo Trust in partnership with Wexford County Council, this project offers free supports to landowners, schools and community groups looking to establish wildlife ponds, mini-woodlands, hedgerows, orchards or create nature plans for their properties.
This year, Wexford joins eight other counties in this highly successful project, which, in 2025, created 1,600 biodiversity habitats across six counties. The initiative offers various supports, including native tree planting for woodlands and hedgerows, heritage apple orchards, wildlife ponds and expert advice on creating a personalized Plan for Nature.
Participants will receive expert guidance from trained advisers plus financial assistance for certain project costs. Those interested can apply online via www.theharescorner.ie.
The project is supported by a combination of public and private funding including the National Biodiversity Action Plan and the Local Biodiversity Action Fund. Wexford County Council’s Biodiversity Officer, Claire Goodwin, emphasized the importance of providing local residents with the resources to help boost biodiversity in the county.
For more details on eligibility and available supports, visit the Hare’s Corner website or explore the project's monthly online clinics for expert advice on nurturing nature.
