Four schools from Wexford will be officially recognised as Champion Schools of Sanctuary at a special awards ceremony on Friday 19th September 2025.
The event will take place in The Street at Wexford County Buildings. Wexford County Council Cathaoirleach Joe Sullivan will present the awards, celebrating the schools' outstanding efforts in creating cultures of welcome and inclusion for all students, including refugees and minority communities. The schools being awarded are: Bridgetown College, Wexford Coláiste Bríde, Enniscorthy St Mary’s Secondary School, New Ross New Ross Educate Together National School St Cronan’s National School, Bray St Mary’s College, Arklow These schools join a growing network of 50 Champion Schools of Sanctuary across Ireland. County Wexford is now home to 12 of these schools. Cathaoirleach Joe Sullivan praised the work of students and staff, saying: “These Champion Schools of Sanctuary are beacons of hope for the whole country now and in the future. I commend the students and teachers for setting standards of excellence in their commitment to welcoming and including newcomers and minority groups and I look forward to seeing more and more schools learning from their shining example. The Schools of Sanctuary movement continues to grow in Ireland, supporting schools that commit to inclusion empathy and the celebration of diversity within their communities.
