FSAI Issues Warning Over Potential Toxin in SMA Infant Formula Wexford Parents Urged to Check Batches

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a precautionary recall of specific batches of Nestlé’s SMA infant formula and follow-on formula due to the potential presence of a toxin produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria.

This toxin, which can cause food poisoning, is a concern for parents feeding these products to infants and young children. Although no illnesses have been reported the FSAI is advising parents to stop using the affected batches immediately.

The affected products can be identified by their batch codes which are listed on the FSAI and Nestlé websites. If any child shows signs of nausea or vomiting after consuming the recalled formula, parents are urged to consult a healthcare professional.

Parents of newborns or preterm infants, in particular, are urged to consult with their healthcare provider for alternative formula options.

Nestlé is offering refunds for the affected products and has set up a dedicated webpage for customer inquiries.
