Following recent flooding that affected many parts of Co. Wexford - the government has agreed a number of steps to respond to extreme weather events.
A cabinet committee, which includes the Taoiseach and Tanaiste, met today on the issue, following recent flooding events across the country.
Flood relief schemes are to be expedited and interim measures taken in areas at risk of flooding.The OPW will be given authority to buy equipment for local authorities and those city and councils will be allowed start road repairs.
Proposals will be brought forward shortly for a permanent structure to manage extreme weather events across the government.
