Minister admits rehab cannot be forced to comply with public pay policy

The Minister for Health has admitted that Rehab cannot be forced to abide by public pay policy. But James Reilly says the government firmly believes that groups in receipt of state funding should adhere to the same pay caps as other public servants. The Rehab board of directors is meeting next Monday to decide whether to reveal the salary package of its chief executive Angela Kerins. Minister Reilly says the government will not stop until it has full transparency in bodies that receive State funding. But he is ruling out an independent inquiry. "We are not for turning and we will pursue this to the end" he said. "The idea of the necessity for a full public inquiry when the HSE are very clearly fully in control of what's happening here, and bringing all these matters to light...one by one will continue - until we reach the end that we all wish to achieve, which is utter transparency" he added.
