Minister Browne Urges Wexford Locals to Attend Bunclody Meeting on New Water Forum

Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, James Browne TD, is calling on the public to engage in an upcoming meeting that will play a key role in shaping the future of water quality management in the Slaney Catchment. The meeting, organised by the Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO), will take place on Tuesday, 30th September 2025, at the Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club, Carrigduff, Bunclody, starting at 7:00 PM. The event is part of a nationwide initiative to establish community forums for managing water quality in key catchment areas. The Slaney Catchment Community Forum aims to increase local involvement in the protection and restoration of water resources within the region. Minister Browne encourages as many locals as possible to attend, saying: “I really encourage members of the public to attend this information evening. This event will help lay the groundwork for the establishment of a formal Slaney Catchment Community Forum, which will be managed by LAWPRO. The input and engagement from local people will be crucial in ensuring the forum is both representative and effective in addressing water quality issues.” Participants will also be encouraged to submit nominations to join the forum, which is expected to become an important local body for addressing water quality concerns. This event is one of four information sessions taking place across Ireland, aimed at creating a network of five community fora nationwide. The forum pilots, running from November 2025 to January 2027, will focus on catchments in Slaney (South East), Boyne (Midlands & East), Mal Bay (South West), Galway Bay SE (West), and Newry-Fane Glyde-Dee (Border). The Bunclody meeting offers a unique opportunity for local residents to have their say in the creation of a forum that will play a significant role in protecting the region’s water resources. Minister Browne encourages everyone with an interest in local water quality to attend and contribute to shaping this vital community initiative.
