Minister of Housing James Browne has urged Wexford County Council to urgently submit an application for funding for a flood relief scheme in Enniscorthy, emphasizing that no application has been made to the government yet.
In a statement received by Minister Browne to South East Radio he reaffirmed that government funding is available but stressed that it is the responsibility of the local authority, in collaboration with the Office of Public Works (OPW), to develop and apply for the scheme.
“I encourage Wexford County Council to develop and submit an application as soon as possible,” Browne said. “Any such application will have my 100% support and I will ensure it is expedited once received.” He added that the people of Enniscorthy deserve the full commitment of all involved, stating, “I won’t accept anything less than 100%.”
The Minister’s statement comes as residents continue to face the threat of flooding, with another status yellow weather warning in place.
Full Statement Below:
Just a reminder that there is currently no application for funding for a flood relief scheme for Enniscorthy with the government.
The local authority, in this case Wexford County Council, develops the relief scheme with the OPW and then applies to the government for funding.
I encourage the Wexford County Council to develop and submit an application as soon as possible.
Any such application will have my 100% support and I will ensure any application when received is expedited.
Government funding for the scheme is available, but there needs to be an application from the local authority.
The people of Enniscorthy deserve a shoulder to the wheel from everyone and I won’t accept anything less than 100%.
