New Ross Port To Come Under Wexford County Council

New ross port to come under wexford county council

Control of New Ross port is set to come under the auspices of Wexford County Council. The government plans to bring the matter to cabinet. New Ross is one of five ports in the country which Transport Minister Pascal O'Donoghue aims to bring into the control of the relevant local authority. New Ross port is currently owned by the government but is run by an Independent Port Authority. Activity at New Ross has decreased in recent years from what was once a thriving port with major shipping interests using the facilites the harbour provided. However the government still considers the port to have regional significance. It is envisaged the transfer of its ownership to Wexford County Council could be a boost for activity at New Ross.
