A secret pact between Ireland and the UK means British fighter jets have been allowed to operate in our skies for the past 15 years. The agreement was drawn up after 9/11 so RAF jets could shoot down rogue aircraft. Irish defences weren't considered strong enough because of a lack of military aircraft. Details of the pact have been revealed in the Sunday Independent amid renewed concerns over European security in the wake of Brexit.
