Residents in one part of wexford told to pay to have lead pipes replaced

Irish Water has told over 100 residents in a part of Wexford town that their supply is contaminated with dangerous levels of lead. Residents of Bishopswater have been issued with notices to let water run for five to ten minutes before using it. Irish Water says residents will have to pay to replace the lead pipes because it's in the grounds of their homes. One resident Philip Dempsey told Alan Corcoran on South East Radio's Morning Mix that they got a letter from the utility that if they replace the pipes they will connect them to a new water mains on the main road in Bishopswater. However he says this means homeowners in the area will have to dig through their houses to connect up. Philip Dempsey says he's been left even more frustrated by the fact Irish Water won't accept the council's offer to flush out the pipes.
