Speed Limit Reduction on N25 Welcomed as First Step Toward Safer Roads

The N25 Safety Group has welcomed a major development in their ongoing campaign for improved road safety along the N25, with confirmation that the speed limit between Luffany Roundabout and Glenmore will be reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h.

The decision follows years of advocacy and recent collaboration with Kilkenny County Council, An Garda Síochána and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). The affected 6.2km stretch of road sees over 15,000 vehicles daily, including a high volume of heavy goods traffic. Safety concerns have been long-standing, especially given the outdated road design and the presence of three identified high-collision zones. “This is a significant step forward,” said Bernie Mullally, Chairperson of the N25 Safety Group. “We appreciate the collective effort by all agencies involved. The reduced speed limit will immediately help reduce risk for motorists, but it is only the beginning. We continue to push for urgent funding for a full upgrade of this stretch.” The N25 Safety Group is calling for immediate funding and construction of a new road, to permanently address the safety issues. They vow to maintain pressure on all stakeholders to ensure this critical transport corridor meets modern safety standards.
