The Minister for the Environment was warned there needed to be more scrutiny of the set up of Irish Water in a Dáil debate at the end of last year.

That's according to Wexford TD, Fianna Fáil's John Browne. His comments come as the body's Chairman and Chief Executive are due before an Oireachtas Committee tomorrow to account for spending 100 million euro in its first year - including 50 million euro on consultants. Deputy Browne says there wasn't enough Dáil debate on how the company would operate. He says it was pointed out to Minister Phil Hogan that there needed to be more scrutiny, discussion and debate on how Irish Water was going to operate into the future.
