Three local authorities – Carlow County Council, Wexford County Council and Wicklow County Council – have backed motions for the removal of the Bord Bia Chair.
Councillors in Wicklow voted 20-6, with five abstentions.
Meanwhile, both the Laois IFA County Executive and the Kildare County Executive received strong support at their meetings last night from political representatives for the campaign to restore farmer confidence in Bord Bia.
IFA President Francie Gorman said a number of TDs and councillors said the issue had to be resolved.
He acknowledged the support from the three local authorities and said it showed the depth of feeling on this issue.
“I want to thank the councillors for giving some of their time to discuss this, and for their backing of our position. There is no question that people can see there is a problem with the current situation in Bord Bia. We can only rebuild farmer confidence if there is a new chair at the helm.”
“Our members have worked extremely hard to give people an understanding of the core issue. We will maintain this campaign until we get a result that allows Bord Bia resume its normal business,” he said.
