Wallace Criticizes Western Policies

Former MEP Mick Wallace has passionately critiqued the role of big money in U.S. politics, European complicity in Gaza and the destructive impact of conflicts like the war in Ukraine.

Speaking earlier on Morning Mix he covered a wide range of global and domestic issues 1. Big Money in U.S. Politics Wallace argues that corporate influence dominates U.S. presidential elections, where big business, not the people, call the shots. He criticizes the U.S. government’s support for Israel’s actions in Gaza, accusing both Biden and Trump of disregarding international law. 2. European Complicity in Gaza & Israel "A Terrorist State" Wallace condemns European nations, including Ireland, for continuing business with Israel despite its role in the ongoing genocide in Gaza. While Europe imposed sanctions on Russia for Ukraine, no such measures have been taken against Israel. Wallace believes Europe should cut all ties to end the violence. Wallace labels Israel a “terrorist state”, citing its military actions not only in Gaza but also in Syria, Yemen and elsewhere. He criticizes Europe’s hypocrisy in continuing trade and participation in international sports events, which he sees as tacit support for Israel's violence.Defending Hamas as the democratically elected government of Palestine, Wallace highlights the West’s refusal to accept Palestinian democracy. While he condemns violence on both sides, he stresses that Israel’s actions are far more deadly and systematic. 4. Presidential Campaign & Catherine Connolly Defending Catherine Connolly's controversial remarks about Hamas, Wallace draws a parallel with the ANC in South Africa, which was initially branded a terrorist group but later led the country to democracy. He argues the West’s refusal to accept Hamas as legitimate reflects a disregard for Palestinian democracy. 5. U.S. Foreign Policy & Ukraine Wallace criticizes the U.S. and European powers for prolonging the Ukraine conflict despite a near-peace deal between Ukraine and Russia in 2022. He argues that Western powers have pushed Ukraine into war, resulting in unnecessary suffering and economic harm to both countries. The war in Ukraine has led to rising inflation and food price spikes in Europe, hurting ordinary citizens. Wallace condemns Europe’s support for the war, arguing that it has worsened the economic crisis while fueling further military escalation. Wallace concludes by calling for the end of European support for Israel, urging for a complete break in trade and diplomatic ties. He advocates for a more neutral, diplomatic approach to international conflicts, particularly in Ukraine, to promote peace and end military escalation.
