Age & Opportunity, in partnership with Pavee Point Traveller and Roma Centre, has announced Jerry O’Connor from New Ross as the inaugural winner of the Award for an Older Traveller Artist.
The new award recognises the creative talents of older Traveller artists and highlights the important contribution of Traveller culture to Irish society. Jerry, a musician, songwriter and poet, has been writing and performing for over 35 years. His work blends traditional sounds with personal stories, deeply rooted in his Traveller heritage. Reacting to the award, Jerry said he felt “honoured and inspired,” describing the recognition as “deeply encouraging.” He will perform as part of Culture Night on September 19th at Pavee Point and again on October 14th at the Bealtaine Gathering in Project Arts Centre.
