Met Éireann has issued two status yellow rain warnings affecting 8 counties this morning. Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Waterford will be under an alert until 3pm this afternoon.
A separate warning is now in effect for Dublin, Louth and Wicklow until 9pm tonight.
It follows a period of extensive rainfall overnight.
People in coastal areas should be on the alert to the possibility of flooding due to high tides.
Difficult travelling conditions are expected, with motorists warned to slow down and expect surface water.
